A rant and 3 steps to overcome inaction

I usually try to make my articles informative but today I think a bit of a rant is in order.

< Begin rant>

One of the absolutely most frustrating things with trying to help people is the lack of inaction. I can’t count the number of times in various seminar rooms there have been nuggets of gold laid out for people and they DO NOTHING!!!

A perfect example was 6 months or so ago. There was a seminar given in Focus 4 and the topic was creating tutorials for the programs you liked and using them to build your list. This is something I have done regularly and still do today.

Well there were 30+ people in that seminar. One person - just one - took action on that idea. Now that person has a list, leveraged other programs to create a membership site, just opened a second membership site. His business is growing. Why? He took action on the information. What happened to the others? They are still wondering why their business shows a loss.

If you are one of the others (and most of you are) here are 3 tips to overcome that.

Start. Take the chance and do something. It doesn’t have to be perfect and quite truthfully it doesn’t have to be that good. There are lots of people that will help you if you are taking action and willing to take advice without having your ego crushed.

Share it with others. Ask for input from those that you trust. Again, though leave your ego at the door. Look at the advice in the way it is offered. One of the biggest problems most of us have is that the project becomes you. Any criticism is taken as criticism of you. This is not the case but we all tend to feel that way. After all that project is your baby and nobody can talk bad to you about your kids.

Don’t quit. Adapt if need be but don’t stop. Keeping an object moving is much easier than getting it started.

Use these three steps the next time you are given one of those golden nuggets and you’ll be surprised at how fast your business can grow.

There has been the first of many important changes to Opt In Master Course. Another item that will be addressed in Opt In Master Course rewrite will be using membership sites to build your list. I am in the process of building two additional membership sites of my own. (Yes you can be sure I will let you know.< wink >) Part of the advantage of using membership sites in your business model is that you can leverage one to help populate the next site.

The problem to date has been that the scripting can be quite expensive. You see quite a few of the Butterfly sites but that software and info costs almost $1500. A bit out of some peoples price range but definitely worth it to those that have used it. Robert Puddy has just launched a new script that I am personally using. I wrote about it in a special update Friday. If you are interested in using this business model he is offering a $200 discount for the launch. You have joined Opt In Master Course so you have decided that building a list is important to your business.

One of the things that will be addressed in the update to Opt In Master Course is the tactic of using a membership site to help build your list.

There has been a lot of information and products launched to do this over the past 6 months to a year. It probably started back in January with the launch of Butterfly Marketing.

Create a powerful follow up series in 5 steps

One of the most common questions that comes up time and time again in the seminars I do is “How do I create an email series?”. If I had a dollar for each time I have been asked that I would have quit my job sooner.

Here are 5 steps to as Larry the Cable Guy says “Git ‘r done.”

Step 1 -Decide on a purpose for the series.

You can use it to warm up your list, sell your product or deliver an ecourse. Once you have decided on the purpose of this series move to step 2.

Step 2 - Outline what your series will cover.

If you are doing this for a product squeeze page make a list of benefits. If it is an ecourse make a list of topics. If it is a warm up series make a list of the products you recommend.

Step 3 - Time to write.

Take the list from the previous step. Write an email for each benefit if you are doing a product. Write each section of the ecourse that you have delineated. Write an email on the topic addressed by the products you promote.

Lets expand a bit on each of the three as each will be a bit different.

Product - You have created a list of the benefits now create a short story that will show that benefit and why it is important.

Ecourse - Design your lessons to follow in order and always add a preview for the next topic in the series. Create a need to discover more to get your next email opened. Add a signature line for a product that fits that topic.

Warm up series - Take the product list you created and create an information email about the problem that each product solves.

Step 4 - Walk away from the series for at least a few hours. This will allow you to come and review what you have written from a new perspective. Do your editing and add in the personalization items for your autoresponder.

Step 5 - Upload the series to your autoresponder and test it out. Please check all the links to be sure they work.

That is the 5 steps to getting your email series created. Now as Larry the Cable says “Git ‘r done.” No more excuses < wink >.

How Can Joining a Forum Help Your Business?

Online forums are a fantastic reminder of the influence the internet has had on society. Using forums to connect with your market is a natural progression.

Forums are online communities where individuals can discuss topics ranging from fly fishing to breast feeding to internet business. Discussions are conducted by posting notes to the forum. A single discussion is called a ‘thread’ and most forums have several - even hundreds - of threads going at any time.

What is truly remarkable about the use of forums is the personal quality of the discussions. Read some of the posts on forums such as ivillage.com and you’ll soon see that the members become more like neighbors (and even friends) than strangers connected only by the keyboard and monitor in front of them.

Where brick and mortar businesses used to prosper based on their involvement in the community - online businesses now have a neighborhood all their own - online forums.

How can participating in a forum help YOUR business?

NETWORKING:

Online forums are a fantastic place to connect with others who are knowledgeable about your business. You probably cater to the same audience and share a common interest. If your businesses compliment one another you might just find a highly profitable partnership or joint venture.

Even if you don’t find a working relationship you may find the referrals or discussions highly beneficial.

TRAFFIC BUILDING:

Along with the referrals you may get when you’ve developed a trusted online presence with other members of the forum, you are also likely to attract targeted visitors to your website.

If the forum permits you to post a signature (your website URL) onto the posts then you can be sure that some of the members and quite likely some of the ‘lurkers’ (people who view but don’t post) will come check out your site.

EDUCATION:

Using the forums wisely can open you up to a great education. Whether it is from fellow entrepreneurs in your field or experts and other posters - you are participating in an ‘inner circle’ type discussion that may open your eyes to new developments and opportunities in your business.

ADDICTIVE:

The only downside is the highly addictive atmosphere. With members posting from all over the world it can be difficult to reign in your viewing time on forums.

On the flip side, other members are hopefully as interested in what you have to say and you may quickly develop a reputation as a reliable source for information.

Be very cautious to follow forum rules. Never spam a forum - your aim should be to participate in a conversation, not interrupt it. Have fun and watch your business grow!

Top Ways To Create Ideas For Your Next Highly Read Article

If you want to make money online a good strategy that doesn’t cost you a dime is to write articles in the field that relates to your product or service.

Search Engines are constantly on the look out for fresh content and writing and submitting articles online is a great way to do that.

So how do you come up with ideas for your next article? Here a few ideas that will help you do that.

* Hang out in online forums. Watch what people are talking about. Look at the questions they are asking. The topics that are bringing the greatest number of visitors would make for an excellent article.

* Take a look at what information is being broadcast on TV, radio, newspapers, and online. This information is usually a hot topic.

* Read blogs. What are people posting about? What kind of comments are they leaving? What questions do they have? Blogs are the hot internet marketing medium right now and you can literally find them everywhere on any topic. This is an excellent source for your next article idea.

* Survey your current customers or website visitors. Ask them what kind of article they would like to see in your next ezine or published on your website.

* Check bookstores online. What are the top sellers. This can be a good way to come up with an article that catches the attention of what people are reading.

* Be seasonal. Write about what is going on that time of year. Holidays, festivals, sports, graduations, etc. all make for an article that someone will want to read.

* Write an article about a current fad. There is always something that is hot at the time and could make for interesting reading from you.

* Keep track of what your customers and prospects are asking you. If you get an email or phone call with a question this may make for a good article. Others may have the same question, but are afraid to ask it.

* Start a swipe file on what others are writing about. If it is of interest to you it will probably be of interest to others. Never plagiarize the work of others, but you can certainly get good ideas this way. The biggest benefit of a swipe file is having it handy to refer back to over and over whenever you are ready to write your article and are not sure what you want to write about.

Hopefully this will give you some ideas on how to come up with your next article. The internet marketer who can write interesting articles has a huge leg up on their competition. If you can master this strategy there is no limit to how much money you can make online.
